Sometimes people think filing for personal bankruptcy means the individual is a failure. We don't. Our long years of practice at Twohey Maggini, PLC, since 1954, have shown that many, many circumstances having nothing to do with personal moral character can come into play in people's lives so that bankruptcy becomes the only viable option for the individual and family. It's okay if you need a fresh start, and we can help you get it. Handling Your Bankruptcy Matter

Our attorneys handle:

Grand Rapids, Michigan, Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 Bankruptcy Lawyers

Since our firm is a general practice firm, we often find that areas of practice merge together, and we can help clients who start out as divorce clients and end up needed help in filing bankruptcy after divorce. Division of property and debt, spousal support or alimony, and child support issues are some of the family law issues that are often raised in the context of bankruptcy. When our clients have issues that overlap, they don't have to hire another firm to sort out the other separate issues. We can handle it.

Commercial Adversary Proceedings

We also represent business creditors in cases in which a larger corporation, such as a major supplier, is filing bankruptcy and attempting to discharge debt owed to the business creditor. We file motions for relief of stay for such vendor-creditors who wish to proceed in state court in order to get their property back. We also handle preference actions in cases in which creditors' clients were paid within 90 days of the filing of bankruptcy. We are often able to negotiate a deal with the bankruptcy trustee in which at least some of the payment is retained by creditor clients.
